    LUO Kang-Long, PENG Shu-Jia
    Journal of Jishou University(Social Sciences)    2013, 34 (1): 48-52.   DOI: 10.3969/j.issn.1007-4074.2013.01.008
    Abstract1797)      PDF(pc) (509KB)(1103)       Save
Each ethnic group’s living environment is specified to adapt into various living environment.Meanwhile, each ethnic group has its special means of traditional living strategies.Bunu Yao people have been living on the Karst mount area for over a long period in Duan. This area with shallow and thin soils and low water resources storage capacity is selective about choosing plant’s species components. When facing the fragile ecosystem, from Bunu Yao people’s long period livelihoods, they have made their own ethnic group’s life be continued by developing and utilizing its ecological knowledge and skills which can be adapted into the nature. Thus, this ethnic group can keep developing.Meanwhile, with the ecological wisdom and technical skills,it can control rocky desertification, which can help to resolve the structural defects in the living environment and turn the worse living environment of humans’ to a valuable and changeable homeland. This fact is enough to suggest that Bulu Yao can effectively harness this catastrophic which is viewed as the “land cancer” by people.

Plant and Culture:Another Interpretation of Human History
    YANG Ting-Shuo
    Journal of Jishou University(Social Sciences)    2012, 33 (1): 1-7.   DOI: 10.3969/j.issn.1007-4074.2012.01.001
    Abstract2655)      PDF(pc) (624KB)(2348)       Save
Malinowski holds that the function of culture is to meet the need of human society. To maintain human society, sufficient food is necessary, which mainly comes from plant. This means that human society, once it is formed, has a close relationship with plant.Historical science, with the evolution of human society as its study subject, would not be able to interpret the power and mechanism of social evolution if it ignores the balance between plant and culture. Unfortunately, historical texts kept so far mainly focus on human activities, especially those of elite class. No culture, nor plant, has been given due weight, making it difficult to interpret historical texts accurately. If we stick to the principle of Annales School that social evolution is uneven, and that the plant, which is closely connected with specific society and culture,is lengthily continual,we may succeed unexpectedly in the research of historical science, because we can draw certain historical and cultural information of plant, direct or indirect, from historical texts, and regain the power and mechanism of social evolution.

The sources of the three great rivers (namely the Yangtze River,Yellow River and Lantsing River) are known as the water tower of the Chinese nation, and they are also the places where the Tibetan people have been living, who used to take a nomadic way of multiple-livestock breeding, taking pastureland by turns and pasturing shallowly, which has effectively protected the weak ecological system and made the frozen earth stable. However, with the change of property right of the pastureland and the advance of fence project, the weak ecological system was damaged, causing ecological disaster and threatening the safety of the water tower of the Chinese nation.Great attentions should be paid to this.

    Abstract1924)      PDF(pc) (499KB)(1212)       Save
Since the middle of the 20th century, anthropology began to pay attention to the relationship between human activities and ecological environment, forming a branch of anthropology-eco-anthropology.Over half a century, theories such as “determinism” and “interactism” have come into existence. However, these theories failed to solve the present ecological problems.Starting from the essential ecological problems, this paper analyzes the relationship between human society and ecological environment, holding that human society and ecological system are two independent and complex systems, and they each possess organization ability.Such a perspective to explore the relationship between human society and ecological system should become the research orientation of eco-anthropology.

Cultural research is eternal for the anthropologists. However, culture is dynamic,so it is difficult to give an accordant definition to it.With the coming of information age, culture is given a new content—a man-made information system with human brain as its carrier, settled by acquisition, consistency, innovation, and reconstruction.Relying on this system, human beings can effectively control the orderly running of material and energy within the society, and assure the prosperity of cultural community.Because of this, the system will also represent a state of life existence.

Regional knowledge refers to the folk knowledge of a given nationality, whose usage is refined to a particular region.Scienfic researches in a general sense may touch this kind of knowledge, but they seldom take it as their main object, whereas, cultural anthropology and ecologic anthropology pay close attention to it and devote themselves to its excavation and reorganization. This kind of research is apt to be misunderstood and cviticized,as a result,it is often difficult to protect and make full use of it.This article tries to cite some typical instances of regional knowledge, expounding on its particular value in ecological protection,so as to reaffirm eco-anthropologist  attention to the reg
    ional knowledge.

    Abstract1645)      PDF(pc) (382KB)(1336)       Save
The establishment of human culture depends on its system and therefore,in the discussion of the impact of human society on the source of water and soil, the balance control of its own will be dealt with first, which is decided by its structural features. The existing human culture in its essence is operated by two sets of laws ---the biological laws and social laws.In the operation of the same culture these two sets of laws can either closely linked or disjointed to a extent. While linked closely it displays its great vitality but in confusion it will show its degradation and produce its strong influence on the eco-system of the nature and the source of water and soil concerned as well, hence causing eco-crisis.The paper lays its stress on the double laws of cultural establishment and the mechanism of mutual controlling balance and how to display the supporting function of cultural stable continuity of the natural eco-system.In addition,counter-measure for the solution of eco-crisis is also put on agenda.

The research of mutual function between social relationship and eco-environment has been started in the realm of cultural anthropology early at the beginning of 20th century and in sixties it had become a branch of cultural anthropology-eco-anthropology,which focuses its research on the relationship between culture and eco-environment.Resource crisis man facing today is caused by multi-conditions such as complicated economic, social, population, systematic and political ones. The scarcity limitation of geographical resource is determined by human culture, and scarcity is a cultural conception.Natural resources is of versatile features which requires versatility of means of living of human imitation on the basis of versatile human culture and pluralist ways of using resources will come out of human means of living. So though the study of eco-anthropology started late, yet it has become an influential subject and has a task unplaced by others.
