Abstract: Various impetuses of modern society have led to the disruption of traditions, which is known as the process of going down to the secular world from sainthood. In the course of this great change, the Chinese intellectuals have gradually lost their original base for existence and become social exiles, political exiles and cultural exiles. This gives rise to time anxieties on the part of modern Chinese intellectuals. Under such circumstances, the Chinese in tellectual have begun to seek homeland for survival. They engage themselves in various reforms, trying to obtain social, political and cultural recogni tion in the tradi tional socialist society. In this process, the Chinese intellectuals have also paid the cost of sacri ficing their modernities. With the retriggering of the modernization progress, the Chinese intellectuals are sure to seek and establi sh their new base for existence.
