The Decline and Boost of the Public Character of Contemporary University Teachers in China

Abstract: University teachers' public character is very important to themselves and to social affairs.It is based on the spirit of adhering to the bottom line of academic career,with the responsibility of protecting social conscience as the core feature,and the caring quality of serving the public interest as the ultimate goal.At present,university teachers' public character is faced with many difficulties,such as academic persistence,lack of social conscience and the weakening of public care.In order to break through this dilemma and boost the public character of university teachers,it is necessary for the government,universities and university teachers at different levels to perform their respective responsibilities and cooperate with each other,that is,government should focus on stimulating the public care consciousness of university teachers,promoting intellectuals to the social foreground,and paying attention to the responsibility ethics of university teachers;universities should adhere to the spiritual persistence and flexible management;and university teachers should be committed to promoting the spiritual realm,adhering to the purport of research and continuing the ideological tradition of the original.
