Abstract: Under the leadership of the Communist Party of China,charitable organizations have experienced a century-long historical evolution marked by initial exploration,reorganization and adjustment,comprehensive emergence,and rapid development,achieving a transformative leap from nonexistence to establishment,scarcity to abundance,and weakness to strength.During the period of the New Democratic Revolution,the earliest charity organization under Party leadership was the China Salvation Association,later renamed the Chinese Revolutionary Mutual Aid Society.Prior to the victory of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression,the Provisional Relief Committee of Liberated Areas was established and subsequently became the All-China Relief Council of Liberated Areas.After the founding of the People's Republic of China,itwas transformed into the Chinese People's Relief Council,which remained active until 1966.The Chinese Red Cross Society was also reorganized in the early years of the new China and underwent multiple adjustments thereafter.With the reform and opening-up policy,social forces actively engaged in charitable work,leading to the large-scale emergence of foundations,social organizations,and non-governmental nonprofit entities.Since the advent of the new era,with the renaming of non-governmental nonprofit institutions as social service agencies,the modern structure of charitable organizations has been consolidated into three major categories—foundations,social organizations,and social service agencies—resulting in a significant increase in numbers,stronger collaborative trends,accelerated internationalization,and a gradually improving legal and regulatory framework.Throughout this century-long journey,charitable organizations have not only carried out extensive relief activities but also contributed to fulfilling the central tasks of the Party,becoming an important vehicle for the sustained and healthy development of public welfare and a key force in promoting Chinese-style modernization.This long and arduous path has yielded valuable experiences:the leadership of the Party is the fundamental guarantee for the growth of charitable organizations;the strength of the people constitutes their solid foundation;self-construction represents their internal requirement;and international cooperation serves as an important condition for their development.
