Abstract: Feng Qi's How to Understand the World, written in the mid-1950s,attracted the attention and endorsement of Mao Zedong. This work offers an innovative exploration of Marxist epistemology from multiple perspectives.First,it identifies two new characteristics of sensory cognition:sensory knowledge increasingly becomes understood experience and conscious observation.Second,it elaborates on the dual function of concepts—concepts both reflect reality and shape reality, with these two functions being interwoven, and the regulative role of concepts possessing methodological significance.Third, the book preliminarily reveals the contradictory dynamics of thought:on one hand,it explores the role of "ignorance" in the development of human cognition, and on the other,it examines how debates among opinions propel cognitive progress.By articulating the new features of sensory cognition, clarifying the dual roles of concepts, and uncovering the contradictions inherent in thinking,How to Understand the World touches upon new dimensions of human cognitive activity, thereby enriching and developing Marxist epistemology. The independent thinking and innovative spirit embodied in this work offer valuable insights for philosophers and scholars seeking to conduct original and meaningful academic research.
