The Rhythmical “Water” and the Perishing “Snow”——A Comparison of Image between The Bordering Town and The Snow Country

Abstract: The image of water in The Bordering Town conveys the Taoism and the meaning of life in traditional Chinese culture.The writer,Shen Congwen,wants to explore a cultural connotation of “beautiful,healthy,and natural way of life in harmony with human nature.” The image of snow in The Snow Country embodies the ideology of Zen,and reveals an aesthetic style of grief and serene unique to Japanese culture.Yasunari Kawabata presents his own exploration of life in this novel.
