Abstract: Jelinek, who has strong consciousness of feminism and social criticism, has been a controversial female writer, whose Nora:What Happened after Nora Left Her Husband,or,Pillars of Society is a reconstruction of Ibsen’s A Doll’sHouse.Yet Jelinek’s original intention is not to subvert the image of Nora in Ibsen’s drama, but to portray a new Nora from the angle of feminism,so as toanswer how Nora lives and struggles in the male-dominated society. This paper tries to analyze the feminism of Nora:What Happened after Nora Left Her Husband,or,Pillars of Society from the viewpoint of androgyny,so as to reveal Jelinek’s ideas about the male-female relationship.
