Abstract:

The classical Chinese natural philosophy of the "Unity of Heaven and Humanity",which encapsulates an ecological wisdom centered on harmonious human-nature symbiosis,serves as a fundamental theoretical source for the ecological outlook of Chinese modernization.Chinese modernization,intrinsically committed to fostering such harmony,represents both a continuation and a substantive development of the core values embedded in this ancient doctrine.This innovative evolution unfolds across three interconnected planes.On the cultural-genealogical plane,the ecological outlook of Chinese modernization undertakes an ontological reconfiguration of the "Heaven-Humanity" relationship,engages in a methodological dialectic concerning "Unity-Oneness",and reshapes the ethical framework of ecological responsibility.This process crystallizes into an ontology of the "Community of Life",a dialectical methodology of "Harmonious Coexistence",and a framework of "Whole-Society Co-governance" for shared ecological responsibility,thereby performing an ecological hermeneutic decoding of the traditional doctrine.On the paradigmatic-epistemological plane,it transcends the mystical ontology,deconstructs the moral-intuitive epistemology,and supersedes the hierarchical axiology characteristic of the traditional framework.In their stead,it cultivates a practical dialectic oriented toward "Respecting,Adapting to,and Protecting Nature",adheres to a scientific rationality grounded in objective laws and empirical inquiry,and advances a conception of ecological justice premised on "Ecological Compensation,Equitable Opportunity,and Fair Distribution",effecting a decisive breakthrough beyond conventional ecological thought.On the civilizational-normative plane,it assimilates the ecological wisdom inherent in notions such as "the Unity of All Beings","Humaneness toward People and Love for All Things",and "Assisting the Creative Processes of Heaven and Earth".It further articulates a holistic vision based on the "Community of Life",a symbiotic vision focused on human-nature harmony,and a governance vision guided by ecological justice.Collectively,this constitutes a creative transformation and innovative advancement of the "Unity of Heaven and Humanity" doctrine by the ecological outlook of Chinese modernization,contributing distinctive Eastern intellectual resources to the discourse on global ecological governance.
