The Deficiency of Maternal Consciousness and Obstacles Against Female Freedom——Re-examination of Emma in Madame Bovary

Abstract: Emma in Madame Bovaryis not an unqualified mother for her deficiency of maternal consciousness and rejecting for maternal love,which can be examined from her words and conducts.Although the female freedom and gender struggle contained in the abnormality of maternal consciousness is limited and mixed,it is closely related to Emma’s particular personality and psychological state,to the developing environment of her deficiency of maternal consciousness and shallow mind and the male-dominated society as well.
