Abstract: At the value level, honesty is represented in three forms, and they reveal different social values.Utilitarian honesty pursues material gain, and honesty is only the way to achieve it;deontological honesty regards honesty as a universal criterion to obey unconditionally;virtue honesty regards honesty as a practice which possesses inner value, and pays attention to cultivation. In present society, these three forms of honesty have their own reasons and values to exist. However, utilitarian honesty, though being advocated now, should not be affimed continuously, because it only cares result and ignores process and the purpose of honesty;virtue honesty emphasizes noble pursuit, yet it is hard to get popularized because it is beyond realistic social moral value;deontological honesty, which gives equal attentions to inner obligation and responsibility of the subject and outer universal criterions as well, should be emphasized and popularized, because it has a restrictive mechanism and is in accordance with present social moral value.
