Abstract: Lots of studies on politeness have been made at home and abroad.However,some influential theories seem to treat the two sides of communication involved in politeness unequally.The author argues that equal attention should be given to the speaker’s politeness motive and language,and the listener’s politeness effect,which means to establish bilateral model of politeness.
