From Rebel to Angel——Judith’s Growth and Faulkner’s South Complex

Abstract: With the aid of Freudian theory of psychoanalysis,the paper conducts an analysis of Judith,a figure in Absalom,Absalom!,and concludes that,born into a Southern family with fierce racist tradition,her life has undergone three phases of growth:the phase of rebellion,of disillusion,and redemption among which the conversion in her adulthood,both as an adjustment made after her failure of Electra Complex and an release from her childhood experience,stands for William Faulkner’s hope of survival towards a decadent south.
