Abstract: English and Chinese are different in many aspects because of cultural differences between East and West, which is well shown in passive voice sentences of the two languages.Through a contrastive study,we find that passive voice sentences in English and Chinese are quite different in syntactic structure, pragmatic function as well as the use of frequency. Some translation methods are given to better illustrate their differences.
