A Native Romance and Its Cultural Connotation and Literary Position

Abstract: A Native Romance, Random Notes of Travel ling inHunan, and Xiangxi constitute a Prose trilogy of Xiangxi. A Nat ive Romance may be regarded not only as a sink-and-float history of the native intel lectuals of Xiangxi, but also as a rise- and- fall history of the Gan army of Xiangxi. It is a hope song of Xiangxi intel lectuals who are st riving to transcend their local historical fate as well as a summary of the authors life pursuit, character cultivation and self- examination.
