Abstract: Thepaper argues that Dali Kingdom forms national identification to Song Dynasty for six reasons:the influence of geographical environment, the need of Dali Kingdom’s survival, introduction and internalization of Confucian theory of state, the contribution of immigrants and ethnical acculturation, the degree of ethnical development, and the impact of religion and cultural education. The fact that Dali Kingdom follows national identification to Song Dynasty presents four features:a deep sense of Chinese domain,a remarkable utilitarian value,a strong historical and cultural identification, and an unusual way to national identification.
Key words: dali kingdom, Song dynasty, national identification
