摘要：近代社会的独特背景决定了近代严肃的、先进的报刊必须承担的责任，必然自然地把社会效益放在第一位。救国新民是报刊普遍的宗旨，强调实现这一宗旨是报刊人的职责；为实现这一宗旨，报刊人应提高办报刊的业务水平和自身素质，处理好经济效益和社会效益之间的关系等，是近代先进报刊社会效益观的重要方面。

Abstract: The advanced newspapers and periodicals put the social benefits in the first place,which was determined naturally by the particular historical background in modern China.The social benefits outlook of the newspapers and periodicals are reflected in their guiding principles,such as the general purpose of saving the country and enlightening the people.In achieving this purpose,the workers in newspaper and periodical industry have to promote their qualities and professional skills,and keep balance the economic and social benefits,etc.
