    Self-Citation Rate and Over Self-Citation of Chinese Journals of Natural Science Published during 2005—2007

    This paper has analyzed self-citation rate of 548 Chinese college journals natural science published during 2005-2007,and fixed normal reference range for self-citation rate of each year.The reference range thus provides reference for the defining of over self-citation thereof.Study shows that self-citation rates of Chinese college journals of natural science during 2005-2007 are as follows respectively:0.100±0.096,0.086±0.090 and 0.078±0.077,declining year by year.The maximum of self-citation rates during 2005-2007 are as follows:0.257,0.234 and 0.204.From 2005 to 2007,over self-citation existed in 39(7.12%),35(6.39%),and 37(6.75%) of Chinese college journals of natural science.

    Three Range-related Issues in Sci-Tech Periodicals

    The use of the punctuation marks “~”and “—” in sci-tech periodicals must be standardized.The punctuation mark “~” is used to reflect the number range,and “—”is used to join place names or location nouns.In English papers,the range of serial number is expressed by en dash “-” or by “from…to…”.When describing the range of variable value,if there exist two variables in the same value range,then it is briefer to use the mathematical operators respectively or the symbol of interval.

    On the Dimensional Thinking of Chief Editors of College Newspapers

     The editing thought of chief editors of college newspapers should be different from that of local newspapers due to the peculiarity of college newspaper.The chief editors of local newspapers mainly consider management and journalism;however,the chief editors of college newspapers should think dimensionally,focusing on journalism,education,culture,and so on.Only by giving full play to the dimensional thinking can the multiple functions of college newspapers be achieved to make up for their deficiency.

    It is determined by the nature of the journals of the higher learning institutions that a university journal should adhere to the correct orientation of public opinions.The political and academic natures are two attributes of the journals.We should integrate the political orientation into the academic research.The journals,which regard the academic taste as their goal of running periodicals should adhere to a correct orientation of public opinions and handle a couple of relationships,namely the relationship between carrying out “double hundred” principle (a policy set forth by Mao Zedong for promoting the progress of arts and sciences and the development of a flourishing socialist culture) and observing the propaganda discipline,the relationship between advocating academic freedom and intensifying political discipline,and the relationship between encouraging theoretical innovation and adhering to the principles of Marxism.

    This paper expounds on the trend of development of editorial information on the basis of documental data and by means of analysis and prediction and discusses its future prospect from the angle of theory and practice. The paper points out that future development of editorial information mainly depends on such high- tech as internet, data bank and multimedium. In view of the gap between the development of editorial information of our country and that of the advanced countries, the paper proposes that the information source be reasonably exploited, editorial and publishing network and data bank be set up and the research on basic theory and applying technology be strengthened.
