On Cosmopolitism before and after the May Fourth Movement

Abstract: Influenced by the First World War,cosmopolitism,originated in the western countries,began to enter China in the early 20th century and gradually became a dominant ideological trend before and after the May Fourth Movement.Early communists,represented by Chen Duxiu,and some Kuomintang members,represented by Sun Yat ̄sen,together with the intellectual groups represented by Liao Qichao,all showed an ideological trend of cosmopolitism more or less.Though their political views were different to some extent in terms of nationalism and patriotic consciousness,their deep concerns to the nation were noticeable under cosmopolitism.
