On Cultural Misconception in Translation

Abstract: Language is the vehicle and essential element of culture.Different languages have different cultural connotations.Translation is not only a process of linguistic transference,but also a process of cultural transference.In the target language,the lack of the cultural phenomenon of the source language and the difference of words’ connotation of the source language may cause cultural misconception.In most cases,misconception is harmful to intercultural communication,but in some cases,it can increase the artistic effect of the target language.A translator needs to be quite good at the home culture and foreign culture if he wants to avoid cultural misconception as much as possible.
