“State Power” Operated in Local Areas

Abstract:  The “bordering wall” in the Miao People inhabited places of Xiangxi in the Qing Dynasty is an important symbol that the “state power” has essentially entered this region.The bazaar,opened along the “bordering wall”,provided a legal platform for the Miao People to trade,and at the same time lessened the conflict between “state power” and the local people,forming a mechanism of “state power” operated in local region.This,in some extent,has eased the tension between central government and local people and promoted economic and cultural development and caused ethnic assimilation in Xiangxi.
