“Name Borrowing System”:Modern Survival Strategy of Folk Belief——Ethnography of Guan Di Temple in Yingzi Village of Yantai

Abstract: Based on three years’ observation and more than twenty interviews,this paper,by ethnography,narrates how a Guan Di Temple,in the name of Genghis Khan Memorial,was built in a Mongolian village.The author believes that the name borrowing system is a survival strategy of folk belief in modern time,which includes the villagers’ efforts,support from local authorities,and governmental departments’ exception.It is the cultural reflection of the conflicts between minor and major traditions,and is a survival strategy to relieve tension and construct an organic society.
