Abstract: Simplification is the logical result of the development of Chinese characters.Chinese government has twice simplified and systematized Chinese characters since 1949.The first simplification is successful and it provides a good example for character reform,while the second one is a failure.The major work in simplifying and systematizing Chinese characters includes regulating the variant forms of Chinese characters,compiling and editing characters which are commonly used,and regulating those that are used in person names and place names.
