Abstract: The negative influence of World War I and the sense of unreliability on the European civilization from them, which both existed in the minds of eastern and western people, greatly triggered Du Yaquan who had been trying to seek a way to save our country out of the national crisis from the West. After comparing the East and the West objectively, and giving a retrospection upon traditional culture calmly,Du Yaquan put forward his theory of harmony and mutual supply between the Western and Chinese Culture. His perception sufficiently recognized the national features of the civilization, but neglected its features in that special period, and ultimately made it a theoretical fortune for the people coming behind to take lessons from.

Key words: World War I, Du Yaquan, the theory of harmony and mutual supply, the Western and Chinese culture
