Abstract: By contrast with the left school of the philosophy of mind by Wang Yangming of the late Ming Dynasty, the Left School of Southern Chan refers to the chan school represented by the chan line of Qingyuan and Nanyue in the middle and late Tan Dynasty. The Bore doctrine is the spiritual philosophy of the Left School of Southern Chan.It is not only a way of thinking, but also a noumenon,a world outlook and a value conception.“Nothingness” is the “national chanting”,and “popular chanting” of the Bore philosophy. The gist of the Bore philosophy of the school lies in their cursing the Buddha,in their Buddhist allegorical words embodied in their odd acts of beating the pot or striking the earth, and in their exact and profound insight into life.

Key words: the Left School of Southern Chan, Bore philosophy, life-like
