Abstract: There are two poetic features in Shen Congwen's Xiangxi native novels:poetic lyric and poetic philosophy. In Shen Congwen's early and middle works, poetic lyric is achieved by primitive and symbolic narration;in his later works, poetic philosophy is achieved by conceptual narration, with deep meditation and intellectual wisdom on criticism. One might well say that there is supreme artistic beauty of the Tang poems in his early and middle works, and a supreme rational beauty of the Song poems in his later works.
Key words: poetic lyric, poetic philosophy, primitive narration, symbolic narration, conceptual narration
