Abstract: This paper examines the Epi taph of Xu Jun with reference to relevant literay works and concludes that its documentary value lies in four aspects: 1. It recorded some facts of the Xu family, which might be supplement a to the family chronicle. 2. It reflected the literary life of the scholars in the regions of Wu and Yue, during Kaiyuan and Tianbao of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynaty. 3. It was calligraphered by the famous cal ligraphist, Xu Shou. 4. It vecorded how Xu Jun pas sed the highest imperial examinations and his later of ficial career.
