Abstract: During the different writing period, Shen Cong- wen's satire shows two different artistic styles: hisearly works are humorous and jocular and the later works are serious and solemn. This paper analyses the characteristics and artistry of his later works, pointing out that they are of subjective color and tragic sense, and probes into the causes of the formation of the style.
