Abstract: Huakuan in Wukaiwei(name of place,now in Guizhou Province) and other places in the Ming Dynasty (1368—1644) is a folk armed organization formed by Han immigrants following Dongkuan (the oath of alliance of the Dong ethnic group).In the middle of the Ming Dynasty,Huakuan's activities showed two characteristics,one was that the murder case was dealt with in the way of Dongkuan,the other was to join with the latter to combat the corrupt officials in Wukaiwei.In the late of the Ming Dynasty,with the growth of the local rebellions,the government promoted Huakuan according to Dongkuan,making it an important organizational form for the integration of various local armed organizations.This shows that the oath of alliance of the Dong ethnic group is not only an important cultural phenomenon in the Dong society,but also has a profound impact on the Han society around.It is of great enlightening significance for us to reflect on the relationship and cultural exchanges between the Han and Dong ethnic group in the Ming Dynasty.
