Abstract: Some similarities and dissimilarities can be found from the comparison between Chinese classical theory of “charm” and that of India,which have no conspicuous external factual connection.Their similarities lie in four aspects,firstly,“charm”,as an aesthetic category,is highly valued in both theories;secondly,both theories regards that “charm” and “sentiment” are essentially related;thirdly,they have similar understanding to the connotation of “charm”;and fourthly,both theories are illustrated with the help of metaphor.Their dissimilarities are seen in two aspects,one is that they have different origins and sources;another is that the latter apparently presents us a more thorough and deeper research in the study of “charm”.
