On the Residence Patterns of the Married Uigur Women and Their Relationships with Marriage and Family——A Case Study in a Village in Xinjiang

Abstract:  It is general that a married Uigur woman lives with her husband’s family.The married Uigur women in village A mainly live with their husbands’ families,and a small number of them live with the wives’ families or live in single.Recently,the residence patterns of the married Uigur women have somewhat changed,with the number living in wife’s family increased,which is often seen in the remarried families,yet not referring to marrying into and living with wife’s family.This paper,from the perspective of maintaining marriage and of woman,discusses the main family relationships of a Uigur woman after marriage:the relationship between husband and wife,between mother and children,and between wife and mother-in-law.
