Abstract:  Wilfred Cantwell Smith has pointed out in The Meaning and End of Religion that religious concepts with general meaning or individual meaning should be abandoned,in order to understand religious life better, the abandoned concepts should be substituted by “accumulated tradition”and “personal belief”.The pragmatic and limitations of religious concepts put forward by Smith is suggestive, the representation of accumulated tradition and personal belief can help us to review some ordinary concepts from perspectives of “professional’s eye”,“stranger’s eye”and “vision of distance”.The many and one in concepts evolution process, the relation between religion and history and modernity and their complexity are insufficient to completely overthrow religious concepts.A kind of proper amendment and supplement are a better choice.
