A Psychological Interpretation on the Love Tragedy in The Bordering Town

Abstract: The natural,familiar,and social environment described in The Bordering Town indicated Cui Cui’s material and mental loneliness and helpless.The lack of listeners forced her to make a self psychological compensation by singing folk songs,dreaming,and entrusting her emotions.She was self-esteemed and yet self-humiliated,and this psychology prevented her love with Er Lao.And the old boatman’s haste and Shun Shun’s secret psychological knot unconsciously catalyzed Cui Cui’s love tragedy.So the love tragedy in The Bordering Town was also the outlet of the depressed emotion of Shen Congwen.
