Reflections on the Thinking Modes between Chinese and English Languages

Abstract: The difference between Chinese and English languages to a certain degree corresponds with the difference between their writing systems and ways of thinking.The pictographic nature of the origin of Chinese writing system has played an important role in the making of Chinese thinking mode and the directness and the paratactic nature of the grammar of Chinese.The abstractness and the analytic nature of English grammar were caused almost in the similar way.It is very important to make clear the relationship between the language of Chinese and English and their character origin and their ways of thinking,especially to the language teaching and learning,translation and intercommunication.
